1st Autumn Term 2023
In Year 4 this half term we will be covering the following areas:
ENGLISH - Information texts including fact files relating to Steve Backshall’s Deadly 60.
MATHS - Place value, addition, and subtraction. Throughout Maths this year, we will also be focusing heavily on times tables practise, in preparation for the Year 4 ‘Multiplication Tables Check’ that will be completed in the summer term.
SCIENCE - Living things and their habitats.
TOPIC – Exploring habitats through the question 'Land, Sea or Air?'.
- We will also cover a wide range of topic themed activities related to other areas of the curriculum.
READING
For English, the single most important thing that you can do, is to listen to your child read. Pupils in 4G can change their books as frequently as they would like providing their reading record book has been signed. Please could we ask that this is signed at home once you have listened to your child read. Please support your child's reading progression and listen to them for approximately 10 minutes each day.
SPELLINGS
In Year 4, your child will continue to develop their spellings through reading and writing more and increasing dictionary practise to check definitions. Spellings are made up of common spelling patterns that will increase in difficulty throughout the year. These will be sent home on a Thursday afternoon and the test will be the following Thursday, to ensure there is enough time to learn them. Please support your child with this and encourage them to learn their spellings in preparation for their tests.
HOMEWORK
Homework will be set on a Thursday in relation to work completed that week. This will be printed off and stuck in their red/orange homework books. Please return these to school within a week of it being set as homework checks will be on a Thursday.
PE
PE lessons for 4G are on a Wednesday afternoon with Mr Vyse. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school on this day. They will need a pair of black shorts, a white t-shirt, trainers, and a spare pair of socks. Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child's name in case items are misplaced, lost, or mixed up with others.
SWIMMING
Children in 4G will be going swimming every Thursday afternoon throughout the Autumn term. Please ensure that your child brings their swimming kit in school on this day. They will need a swimming costume/shorts and a towel. Children are also able to bring along goggles/swimming caps/armbands to meet their individual needs. Children will return to school by coach for 3:15 (please allow for traffic at this busy time which may result in them being 5 minutes late on these days).
