At Hollin Primary School we want to enable children to understand the world around them and gain the knowledge and skills within them, so they can become passionate, fulfilled individuals and active compassionate citizens.
We will inspire, engage and teach purposeful lesson that cover a rich, varied and creative curriculum. We ensure each child practices taking risks, learning from mistakes and persevering towards their most ambitious goals.
We want to create happy pupils’ who aim as high as they can, whilst still enjoying their childhood. The children will benefit from as many opportunities and experiences as possible.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Children learn through play, exploring, investigating and by being creative.
In line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum our approach to teaching and learning is a child centred approach, the children are the focus, not focused activities.
There are seven areas of learning in which we will base our teaching. These areas are personal, social and emotional development; communication and language; physical development; literacy; maths; understanding the world and expressive arts and design.
We provide a wide selection of activities and challenges which will offer a range of ways for the children to work towards their Early Learning Goals. The school day within EYFS involves directed teaching sessions of Mathematics, Literacy, Funky Fingers and Phonics. These taught sessions are tailored around transitional times in the day providing the children with sustained blocks of play to fully immerse in meaningful and memorable first hand learning experiences, within the provision. We use the accredited and systematic phonics scheme ‘Read, Write, Inc.’ to support the teaching of early reading.
