A BIG welcome to all the children in our Year 1 class this year. We hope you had a lovely Summer holidays and are ready for the year ahead!
In phonics we will continue to carry on learning our set 2 and 3 sounds and ensure children are using their phonic knowledge to become fluent readers. Children will take part in guided reading sessions where they will answer questions about what they have read and make predictions about the text. Children also enjoy our daily shared reading session where they listen to stories from some popular authors such as Roald Dahl and David Walliams.
This half term we will focus on ensuring children are confident and secure at writing simple sentences, independently, using finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. Lots of practise at home would really help all the children.
In Maths we will be learning to:
Count in 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's forwards and backwards
Say number bonds to 10, write them as a sum and find the missing numbers in sums
Work out addition and subtraction sums
Write numbers using the correct formation
Our Topic for this half term is Who am I?
In Science we will be learning all about our bodies including body parts, our 5 senses and how to keep our bodies healthy. In history we will be looking at photographs from when we were babies and talking about how we have changed. We will also be thinking about our families and what we would like to do as we get older. In art we will be painting self portraits and doing lots of art work linked to our bodies.
PE is on a Wednesday so please make sure your child has the correct PE in school.
If your child would like to change their reading book then please put their book bag in the box outside the classroom door.
Homework to be completed by Wednesday every week.
